Small Joy Time: LNER’s Eat At Your Seat

I use LNER trains a lot.
I’m based in Wakefield, Jake is based in Peterborough, so spending time together often means a train trip down the east coast mainline courtesy of you guessed it, LNER.
Now, generally speaking, trains and I don’t mix. To be fair, any mode of transport where I’m a passenger isn’t usually a good fit for me. I struggle with motion sickness. And yes, most people do grow out of it, sadly I didn’t. I threw up on a train just last week, which may be TMI but essentially what I’m getting at is that for me, motion sickness is a real problem.
So it’s safe to say, historically the prospect of a train journey hasn’t delighted me.., until now!
LNER’s “Let’s Eat At Your Seat” feature is just about making the motion sickness worth it! For those that don’t know or haven’t tried it yet, it’s a nifty little QR code on the back of the seat in front of you that lets you order food and drinks to your seat, without getting up. It’s basically post on a train and I love it.
Why is “Let’s Eat At Your Seat” a small joy?
One, I don’t have to get up. No I’m not lazy, but when I’m travelling alone I don’t fancy leaving all my stuff behind to hit the cafe carriage and also, motion sickness on trains is not improved by walking up and down the aisle.
Two, I like deliveries and this counts as one in my book. This love of “post” is something I 100% get from my dad. I think it’s got something to do with unboxing stuff, but I haven’t fully figured it out yet (maybe that’s a future blog topic).
Three you can earn LNER “perks” by spending on food and drink. Maybe it’s the marketer in me, but I am a sucker for a loyalty program, especially one focused around earning points and prices. Boots, Nectar, Airtime Rewards, Tesco Clubcard… you name it, I’m probably using it.
In short, it’s convenient, practical and something of a treat during the journey. Next time you’re on an LNER train for more than ten minutes - give it a go.
